Thoughts from a Non-Blogger

I've never really liked the idea of blogging.

To me, it seems a little overdone. If you're looking for a cooking blog or a mommy blog or a newlywed blog, you have thousands to choose from. And which one do you choose? Who has the best information? And why do we care so much about what other people have to say?

Bloggers tend to share really amazing things (especially us girls). The best recipes, the cutest crafts, thoughts after an amazing day. These are all great things! But sometimes it leaves us with the impression that other people's lives are way more perfect than ours - way more enjoyable, and perhaps more "right" than ours.

We rarely hear about the crummy things from bloggers, and rightly so. It's harder to gain an audience when you write about complaints, frustrations, or bad days. There's nothing wrong with keeping this information from the web, but as a blog reader, I think it's important to understand that we are only seeing half of the picture.

Blogs are a great way to find new ideas, gain inspiration, and connect with others, but not so great of a way to figure out what we are missing from life. You probably won't find that by sitting in front of a computer screen.

So why am I blogging?

A friend told me yesterday that we lose a lot by always being introspective. It kind of stuck with me. At first I was like "?" and then I was like "!" Although I don't always like the idea of sharing the thoughts that are in my head, I realized that maybe in doing so I would come to understand more of them. And I like that idea.

In short, I'm writing for me. I think a whole lot, and I say very little of what I think. I don't like to write because I think so much faster than a pen, but typing, now that I can do pretty quickly! So this is my way of organizing the thoughts that are swimming around in my mind in hopes that they are of a greater meaning.

I'm not writing for an audience, but if you happen to be reading this, I appreciate your interest in my ideas, and value the time you have spent on this page. YOU also have something to say, and I encourage you to find a way to share what's in YOUR mind, too. And let me know about it!

Welcome to JBR. Less frills, more fa' realz.
